Start by doing a push-up, and then when you reach the peak of the up motion, freeze and hold the position while pulsing in and out by pushing off the floor repeatedly. Hold the pulsing at the top for 10 seconds before slow lowering your body back to the starting position. Do 3 sets of 10 repetitions.
Y Raise
This exercise targets shoulder muscles as well as muscle of your upper back. For this exercise, you need to hold a light weight (1-3 lbs) in each hand and stand with your back straight and feet shoulder-width apart. Now extend your arms away from your body and make a Y shape with them, using your shoulder muscles and keeping a hold of weights. Hold that position for five seconds and then slowly come back. Do 3 sets of 12 repetitions each.
Upright Row
Another excellent exercise to strengthen the muscles of your upper back and shoulders is the upright row. Start by standing straight with your feet slightly wider than shoulder-width apart and arms hanging straight down with a light weight in each hand. Now bending your elbows, slowly raise the weight of your chest and hold for five seconds before slowly lowering them back to starting position. Do 3 sets of 10 repetitions each.
